Pick two airports to see an estimated one-way price and flight time for each jet size. It's the same method we use on every route page.
| Jet size | Time in the air | One way, estimate |
|---|---|---|
| Light jet | about 2 hr 45 min | $15,000–$20,000 |
| Midsize jet | about 2 hr 35 min | $16,500–$22,000 |
| Super-midsize jet | about 2 hr 30 min | $19,500–$25,000 |
| Heavy jet | about 2 hr 25 min | $24,000–$32,500 |
Teterboro to Opa-locka: 1,092 miles (949 nautical miles) in a straight line.
How the estimate works
- Distance: the straight-line (great circle) distance between the two airports, from OurAirports coordinates.
- Flight time: distance divided by a typical speed for each jet size, plus 18 minutes for taxi, climb and descent. If the distance is beyond a jet's practical range, we add 36 minutes per fuel stop. Turboprops are shown only up to 700 nautical miles and heavy jets from 400, where they make sense. Long east-west legs get 8% more time flying west and 5% less flying east, for the prevailing winds, and practical range is cut by 15% when an airport sits above 5,000 feet.
- Price: flight time multiplied by an all-in hourly range for each jet size, with a 1-hour minimum. The ranges are calibrated against one-way prices published by charter companies for routes such as New York to Miami and Los Angeles to Las Vegas.
| Jet size | Typical speed | Practical range | All-in hourly range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Turboprop | 270 knots | 1,200 nm | $4,500–$6,000 |
| Light jet | 390 knots | 1,700 nm | $5,500–$7,300 |
| Midsize jet | 420 knots | 2,000 nm | $6,500–$8,500 |
| Super-midsize jet | 430 knots | 3,000 nm | $7,800–$10,000 |
| Heavy jet | 450 knots | 4,000 nm | $10,000–$13,500 |
These are estimates, not quotes. Real prices depend on the date, where the aircraft is, demand and the operator.
